Dan Murphy promises 10-minute on-the-spot interviews to fill 280 odd jobs in WA

Dan Murphy’s hopes the promise of 10-minute on-the-spot interviews will help it hire nearly 300 people in its WA network of stores over the next week.

The spirits retailer, part of Woolworths spin-off Endeavor Drinks, has launched a week-long recruitment campaign across Australia that aims to attract 2,200 casual employees as it prepares for an expected bumper shopping season. Christmas and summer.

The staff call comes amid an increasingly tight job market, with WA’s unemployment rate now at just 3.2 percent, the sixth month of lows in nearly half a century. The previous low of 2.7 percent was in September 1974.

McDonald’s has held similar hiring drives as retailers scramble to fill vacancies. The need for staff has become so desperate that the Retail Association of Australia last week called for national minimum age requirements for work so that children up to 13 can work to help fill labor shortages.

Dan Murphy’s said it needed to hire 280 people in WA, with most positions open for an immediate start at a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Incoming managing director Agi Pfeiffer-Smith said the company wanted to make the hiring process as simple as possible.

Prospective employees over the age of 18 have until September 11 to get a 10-minute interview on the spot by registering their interest with staff at any of the 258 stores across the country.

“All Dan Murphy stores are hiring so please come as you are and our commitment to each applicant is that we will give you a short interview on the spot,” said Ms. Pfeiffer-Smith.

“Hiring week is also a great way for applicants to interact directly with the store manager and see for themselves if they think they would like to work in the store and with the team.”

The cost of Responsible Alcohol Service training will be provided if required.

While Dan Murphy’s argument for workers may be right for many university students, changes to Centrelink’s rules announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Friday could also attract a wave of retirees eager to get back into the workforce.

At the conclusion of the Jobs and Skills Summit last week, Mr. Albanese revealed a $4,000 increase in the amount seniors can earn without losing part of their age pension. The arrangement is a temporary and use-it-or-lose-it agreement that must be taken advantage of by the end of this fiscal year.

Eligible seniors receiving a full or partial old-age or veteran’s pension will have an additional $4,000 added to their work bonus income bank.
