The first dedicated model from the BMW M division in 40 years has been leaked online, proving it won’t be straying too far from last year’s XM concept.
the 2023BMW XM – the first standalone BMW M model since the M1 supercar of the 1970s – was leaked in patent images online, a few months before its official launch.
While the BMW XM was spied in minimal camouflage, the new patent renderings highlight the car’s angular lower front bumper, slim LED headlights and large kidney grilles.
The XM window line incorporates a unique integrated design, extending from the car’s front guard to the rear wheel arch panel.
The concept car’s ultra-thin taillights have been replaced with a more traditional set of LED lights, though the stacked quad exhaust tips remain.
Compared to the BMW XM concept, the production car’s roofline appears to be more conservative, leading to its uniquely shaped rear window featuring BMW logos etched into the glass, a nod to the M1 supercar.
The patent images don’t allow you to see inside the BMW XM’s cabin, though spy photos suggest the company’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch central touchscreen will likely be equipped.
BMW has confirmed that the XM will be powered by a new twin-turbocharged V8 petrol-electric hybrid system, developing 480kW and 800Nm at launch, assisted by a “high-performance” electric motor.
A higher performance version is expected later, rumored to bear the Black Label name, with almost 550kW and 1000Nm.
the 2023BMW XM Rumor has it that it will be revealed next month, before production begins in December 2022.
BMW Australia has yet to confirm its plans for the XM, however it seems like a logical choice for Australia given the local popularity of the BMW X SUVs and M performance models.
