- Grocery giant’s new machines feature larger unloading and packing areas
- Commenters were pleased to see that the company “finally” upgraded the old systems.
Woolworths shoppers were shocked by the supermarket giant’s new self-service checkout machines, but the move has already divided customers who say the supermarket giant needs to hire workers.
A video uploaded on Saturday showed the new machines featuring larger bagging spaces and space to park a small cart above the unloading area.
“Woolies upped the game for self-service check-ins,” read a caption posted with the video.

The video received a round of support from commenters who were glad that Woolies had “finally” upgraded their system.
‘My Woolies has self-service carriers in addition to these,’ one person wrote.
“I’ve had you guys in New Zealand for three years… are you guys finally coming out of the dark ages?” said another.
However, other commenters compared the new machines to Coles’ updated self-service system, which features conveyor belts and a larger area for packing and reloading, and pointed to remaining flaws in the system.
‘Do we get a staff discount since we do it ourselves?’ one commenter wrote.
Coles have better. Clips to hold bags. Large area. It scans continuously without waiting,” said another.

Several commenters below the video showcasing the new Woolworths machines said they were glad the supermarket giant is “finally” upgrading its self-service system.
“That’s right mate, they up the game at drive-thru by putting a facial recognition camera on your face,” wrote another.
‘Can you stop saying you didn’t put the item in the bag? I put the item in the damn bag,” said another.
‘Boycott Job Killers!’ wrote another.
A Woolworths spokesperson said: “We’re always coming up with new and better ways to give our customers the most convenient shopping experience, upping our game with larger self-service checkouts is just one of them.”
