An American man praised London after a recent visit, even putting Tesco’s food offerings higher on his list of recommendations than some of the top tourist attractions.
The tourist was very impressed after his family’s two-week stay in the UK capital, with public transport, food and museums included in its highlights.
However, British supermarkets were also seen as very positive, with Tesco and Sainsbury’s (the Australian equivalent of Coles and Woolworths) earning significant mention in a review it posted online, The Sun reports.

The man wrote on Reddit: “My family lives in New York but we spent most of this summer scattered in various places due to work, camping, internships, etc.
“We decided to meet up in London for two weeks and do some sightseeing.
“My wife and I had been to London before, though not for a long time. This was the first trip for my children (10, 16 and 19).”
On a list of things his family liked, he wrote: “Tesco, Sainsbury’s, etc. Meal deals. £3 ($A5) or £4 ($A6) gets you a sandwich, snack and drink almost everywhere.
“Lots of vegetarian/fish options for us. There’s nothing comparable in New York City, unless you consider a slice of cheese pizza a proper lunch. We lived off this when we were on tour.”
The humble food deal also found a lot of support from other users in the comments, with several people speaking fondly of them.
One said: “My wife, when she first visited from the US, was like, ‘Oh my God, Tesco Extra! Have you eaten their cheese and onion sandwiches?
“And Pret! She would move to the UK just to eat an almond croissant every day!
Another said: “Fair game for putting Tesco’s food offering ahead of the Tower of London and the British Museum.”
Also on his list of things he enjoyed was the subway, which he said was “newer and cleaner and appears to be in better condition” than the New York subway.
He also said that he enjoyed the Tower of London, the British Museum and the free walking tours offered in the city.
He added: “Even with the heat wave and traffic strike, we had a great visit. The children want to move to the UK now.”
If this man’s review has you craving a Tesco meal deal, this trick could save you even more money.
