A variety of prepared meals available at Coles and IGA have been pulled from shelves due to a foodborne illness scare.

Six Raw Nation Wholefoods items were recalled nationwide due to possible listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The products affected by the scare are the CRUDO range, which includes the Chicken Caesar, Vietnamese Bowl and Jamaican Jerk varieties.

Raw Nation Wholefoods Products Affected by Listeria Fear

RAW Cheekie Pumpkin, 275g

RAW Caesar with Chicken, 200g

RAW Vietnamese Bowl, 275g

RAW Jamaican Jerk, 250g

RAW Oriental Chicken, 275g

If customers have these items, they must return them for a refund.

Expiration dates for items, which can also be purchased at some independent grocery stores, are August 31, 2022 and September 1, 2, and 3, 2022.

Listeria bacteria can cause illness in unborn children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

The bacteria that causes listeriosis comes from processed meats and dairy products.

Symptoms of the disease include fever, nausea, and headache, and can be treated with antibiotics.

The World Health Organization estimates that around 23,000 people develop listeriosis each year worldwide; of these, about 5,000 cases are fatal.

If anyone has consumed the meals they should seek medical attention.

The food safety scare comes after beer cans were recalled from Woolworths and Coles over the weekend.

Eagle Bay Brewing Company has recalled its 375ml XPA cans with a best before date of April 19 of next year.

The cause is a secondary fermentation that could harm consumers.

“Food products that contain excess alcohol and carbonation can cause illness or injury if consumed,” Food Standards Australia said.
